TAJR025 - MUTA [TAKE AWAY JAZZ RECORDS]

For the next 25 minutes, Mexico-based producer Buena Tarde will format, slice, de-escalate, and mutate sounds in the most elegant yet abstract way.

The EP opens with MUTA, meaning mutation in Spanish. Highlighted in the track are the chilling, ethereal vocals; ebbing and flowing throughout the tense and electrifying sonic soundscape that defines the two and a half minute runtime.

Bradtromel (ft. CÁRPATOS) takes a u-turn, moving into gentler territories. Crunchy. Twisted drum-work combs through the fluffy melodic landscape, creating a detailed, thought-provoking composition.

While steering the focus closer to club territory, track three Choco Menta still refrains from conventional musical boundaries. Taking cues from his dubstep influences, Buena Tarde adopts an aggressive, chugging bassline sprinkled with glitchy drums, creating a foreboding, tense atmosphere.

EP single EN is a standout for the record—an emotional, melancholic opening quickly descends into murky depths. Full bass layered over crushed, static-filled drums and echoes of mutated vocals snap you out of your comfort zone, sending the listener into a realm only found in dreams. Have you been sleepwalking?

The final track o8o is a sonic decadence, pulling together all the sonic characters presented in this release and manifesting them into an experimental trip-hop finale. Craftsmanship within a complex audio composition, sprinkled with playful vision is what makes Buena Tarde so mesmerising. Your senses have now experienced MUTA in full effect.
